8 THE SHEPHERD • JANUARY 2024 • SAINT SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO Our parish celebrated a beautiful Feast Day of Saint Spyridon beginning on the evening of Monday, December 11th with the service of Great Vespers, followed by a Lenten Re- ception hosted by our Ladies Philoptochos. On Tuesday, December 12th we celebrated Orthros service and Divine Liturgy with His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco and Father Andrew Scordalakis. Other local clergy were also in attendance: Father John Kariotakis, Father Nicholas Andruchow, Father Simeon Corona, and Father Angelo Maginas. Also, with us were Deacon Justin Bosl and Deacon Evangelos Karapoulios. Following the divine services, a delicious fish luncheon was offered for the community by the Parish Council and the Ladies Philopto- chos of Saint Spyridon. It has been six years since His Eminence has been with us for our Feast Day so we were very pleased to welcome him to our parish once again. His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos also pre- sented Father Andrew with the “offikion”/ title/honor of Protopresbyter. As His Emi- nence stated: “Father Andrew now joins his place among the senior clergy with regard to his date of ordination and rank.” Christ is Born - Glorify Him!
