6 THE SHEPHERD • FEBRUARY 2024 • SAINT SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO At the time of this writeup, we are just days away from our much-anticipated Basile show on January 19th. The excite- ment has been building for months, and we are in a mad rush to put together the final pieces for the show. Hundreds of appetizers are being made. The stage and lighting are on their way. Chairs and tables for over 200 people are being set, and the excitement (ok and the stress…) are at their peak! The Dance and Choral program is looking forward to shar- ing this event with our parish and plenty of photos will be included in the next edition of the Shepherd. Mark your calendars for our next event, our FDF Preview in the church hall on Sunday, February 4th. We will be hosting fellowship and performing for the entire community. All are welcome! Both our youngest group, Ta Spiridonakia and our older group Pelagos will perform. We are looking forward to celebrating our older group’s accomplishment as they (along with our Choral group) leave for FDF the following week. Remember, we are available to perform at weddings, bap- tisms, corporate events, fundraisers and as outreach for char- itable organizations. So if you would like to have our dance group perform, please reach out to stspyridondance@gmail. com or call 714-931-2431. DANCE & CHORAL ADVERTISE IN THE SHEPHERD NEWSLETTER! Alexandra Mouzas DRE# 00969679 International President’s Circle & Diamond Society Celebrating 36 years Alex@AlexandraMouzas.Com • AlexandraMouzas.Com 619-518-2755 As I write this, I am reminded that winter is upon us, though mild here in San Diego, as friends who are visiting remind me of weather conditions in other parts of the country. The weather has not constricted our community activi- ties, however, and I am warmed by the palpable sense of “community” within our church community here at St. Spyridon. If you attended the 2024 Epiphany Event this year, the crowd was alive with anticipation and appreciation for all the young people who dove for the Cross, for the presentation of the Leon Balaban Award, and the lovely meal. I bought a cake from Philoptochos and shared it with my employees the following day as an appreciation for their dedication to their work. This last Sunday we had the cutting of the Vasilopita and the installation of the new Parish Council. Many were in attendance for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy and in the hall for fellowship. I am sure you too felt the excitement and energy from gath- ering once again, as a faith community. We build community through participation in the divine services of the Church and being active in the thirty-nine ministries of the Church. Thus, the Stewardship Committee once again, respectfully asks each of you to show your tangible support for the ministries and the “community” they support by making an honorable pledge to your beloved parish. Please complete and send your 2024 pledge card to the church office today. This pledge, your pledge, supports our thriving community which is most certainly growing and ex- panding its many activities. Or, you may do this online at www.stspyridon.org , or pay through your bank, or call the office at 619-297-4165. STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE Sponsored Announcement
