6 THE SHEPHERD • MARCH 2026 • SAINT SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO Dear students, families and friends of our Greek School, As many of you know, I am currently in Greece, enjoying precious time with my fam- ily and taking in all the beauty, warmth, and history our country has to offer. I also used this opportunity to gather many wonderful Greek books, board games, and other materi- als for our students — from our Tiny Greeks all the way to our higher levels — which I will be bringing back to San Diego with me in the coming weeks. Even from afar, it fills me with pride to see how active and engaged our school community has been throughout this month, and to witness the amazing work our teachers continue to do. Here is what we have been up to: CULTURAL EDUCATION VISIT TO SAINT SPYRIDON CHURCH: In February, our Level 2 and Level 3 students with κυρία Όλγα visited our church, where Father Andrew welcomed them and led a wonderful tour. As part of their cultural ed- ucation, the children learned about the rich history of our church and our community — a history that spans over almost 100 years! The students absolutely loved the experience. They were curious, attentive, and deeply en- gaged. After the visit, they each wrote their own thank‑you notes in Greek to Father An- drew, expressing what they learned and how much they enjoyed the tour. It was a beau- tiful moment of connection between lan- guage, culture, faith and community. Earlier, I also had the opportunity to meet with the programming team behind our school management system (entirely Greek owned and based company!) for a brunch and a hands‑on workshop. We explored new ways to optimize how we use the platform, discussed our feedback as users and dis- cussed renewal terms to ensure our school continues to operate smoothly and efficient- ly. It was a productive and inspiring meeting, and I’m excited about the improvements ahead. We are now preparing for our annual March 25th celebration, which will take place on Sunday, March 29th, immediately following the Divine Liturgy. Our students and teach- ers are working with great enthusiasm to honor Greek Independence Day through po- ems, songs, and presentations that celebrate our heritage. Thank you all for your continued support, dedication, and love for our school. Wishing everyone a wonderful month filled with learning, Greek pride and “Καλή Σαρακοστή, με υγεία πάνω απ’ όλα.” Warmly, Dr. Eleni Sinopoulou San Diego Greek Language School Director GREEK LANGUAGE SCHOOL ΣΧΟΛΕΙΟ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗΣ ΓΛΩΣΣΑΣ San Diego Greek Language School celebrates Sunday, March 29 At the Saint Spyridon Church Hall, Following The Divine Liturgy General admission: $25 • 12 years old and below: $15 No sales at the door 3 ways to purchase tickets: • Scan the QR code • Visit www.sdgreekschool.org • Contact Christoforos Savvides at 619.709.6067 The Greek Revolution of 1821
