NEWS is is the most di cult GOYA newsletter I have had to write since we took over almost 8 years ago as Directors as my heart is broken. e last newsletter I personally wrote was in May with Stephanie writing in July and outgoing President Dimitri Gilpin writing in June and August. I never would have imagined the last 3 months would turn out like they did. With our beloved wife and mother Stephanie passing away on July 1st at the age of 58 I ask myself the ques- tion everyday NOWWHAT? I know she is in a better place where there is no pain, sorrow or su ering and only life everlasting which gives me com- fort, but she had so much more she wanted to do and see in her life. On behalf of my family I want to thank you all for the outpouring of love you have shown us during this horrible time. From the cards, prayers, dona- tions, food and so much more we are so grateful to have our St. Spyridon family in our lives. Stephanie wanted to continue GOYA for a few more years through her retirement from UCSD so I will try and ful ll her wishes. Of course, I will need A LOT of help. Mrs. Ali- na Kleinhenz has agreed to be one of the “parent helpers” this year and we will de nitely need a few more. Parents if you can lend a hand to this year’s GOYA please contact me soon. ank you in advance for your help. On August 16th we had a ZOOM called and elected our 2020-2021 of- cers at that time. I am pleased to an- nounce our NEW GOYA board for 2020-2021: George Dougenis (Pres- ident), Zoe Maude (1st Vice Presi- dent), Maggie Samouris (2nd Vice President), Ana Constantine (Sec- retary) and Anastasia Terris (Trea- surer). Please support your board during the coming year by attending the monthly events and sharing your ideas for making our GOYA events fun and meaningful. Grab your bathing suit, beach chair and blanket and join us for an eve- ning of fellowship, fun and food as we head to the beach for a GOYA Beach Party on Saturday, September 19th at La Jolla Shores. GOYA will provide pizzas for everyone and a SignUpGe- nius will be set up for you to sign up to bring everything else. e whole family is invited so bring your par- ents and siblings. e evening begins at 4:00pm at La Jolla Shores and ends at sunset. Of course, Coronavirus MAY cancel this event but for now save the date and we will pray we can all get together at the beach and obey the current social distance guidelines set in place. Please plan to join us for this fun lled evening! Before we end this month’s article we MUST say Godspeed and good luck to those GOYAns who are going to college in late August and Septem- ber. We wish God’s many blessings on Emma Adamson (USC), Antho- ny Dick (Cal Maritime), Cameron Gikas (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo), Dimitri Gilpin (Gonzaga), William Gilpin (Gonzaga), George Gonis (he will be a Fire ghter), Athena Huntalas (UC Davis), Maria Ka- petanios (SDSU), Demetri Zouvas (Grossmont College), Maria Zouvas (Mesa College).
