National Church Music Sunday is a day we set aside particularly to honor the contributions of local choir mem- bers, psaltes (chanters) youth choirs, and music educators who serve their churches through the hymnology of our Orthodox Church. In addition, it is a day when we recognize the work of the diocesan church music minis- tries as well as the National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians, who through their music ministry, strive to enhance the development of church choirs, church musicians, and liturgical music at diocesan and archdiocesan levels. Please take a moment to thank your beautiful choir, youth choir, psaltes and cler- gy. I know that I so appreciate each and everyone of them for all the hard work they give to our community! I thank them all from the bottom of my heart. In honor of Church Music Sunday, your youth choir will sing the Divine Liturgy. Come hear them sing! Happy birthday to Bill Demos, John Kiriazi, Orland Lamce, and Akrive Stathakis . May God grant you many years. The choir also wishes to send love and prayers to our Bill Dem- os for his speedy recovery with his shoulder. Congratulations to our very own Kaylin for becoming an Orthodox Christian! How wonderful to join our faith and sing your love to the Lord with us in the choir. You have a special Godmother with Miss Kay. God bless you both! Axia! I will leave you with this beautiful prayer for our church musicians: O Heavenly Father, on this day pro- claimed National Church Music Sunday by our Archdiocese, our par- ish recognizes the women, men, and youth in our parish who give their time and musical talent in service to You, our Lord, and to Your Church. Bless them, O Lord, as they sing prais- es to You, and glorify Your Name. As our “season of giving” ap- proaches, a friendly reminder to consider remembrance do- nation gifts to the bookstore in memory of your loved ones. The bookstore is a church ministry and all the money earned and donated is returned to the bookstore to purchase new items for your spiritual nourishment. Speaking of spiritual nourishment, have you considered opening up a book about our Orthodox Saints? The Saints started out as ordinary Christians, just like us, and they are waiting to accompany us on our journey to heaven if we will only reach out to them. There are books stocked for both adults and children that introduce Saints from a variety of times, places, and walks of life. You are sure to find Saint companions that will be happy to walk with you all the way to the Kingdom. Remember St. John Chrysostom’s words: “All that are careful in this life, procure books that will be medicine for the soul. ” Please come in and browse after Divine Liturgy.
