8 THE SHEPHERD • OCTOBER 2024 • SAINT SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO tribulations; for a taste of those trials see II Cor. 11:22-33 for a synopsis. He stood trial before many religious and secular leaders. After writing fourteen books of the Bible (Epistles/Letters), throughout his ten years of ministry, St. Paul was finally beheaded under the Roman emperor Nero around the year 68 AD. St. Paul’s intellect, combined with his zeal and living example of unwavering faith, apart from the four Gospel writers, makes him the most important writer and personality (apart from Christ) of the New Testament. St. Paul used his mind to help define and set into place our Christian faith and intellectual understanding of Jesus Christ. St. Paul guid- ed by the Holy Spirit gave his life “as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1) for the work of His Lord, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and there is no way one can thoroughly under- stand the New Testament without under- standing his presence, writings, and life. +A. Let their music be a witness to Your majesty and love, and remind us all of Your presence in our lives. Help them to bring the Word of God to our parish family through Your music, through chant and hymn singing. Help them to fulfill all the responsibilities this music ministry requires. Giving of time and talents to learn the hymns of our faith, teach- ing others these musical prayers, actively par- ticipating in the dialogue of our worship, and striving to enhance the beauty of our liturgical life. Help them to grow as disciples of the Lord by making every effort to hear the Word of God, integrate His teachings into our lives, and sharing it with others through music. Master, Lord our God, You commanded that everything be done for Your glory. By Your blessing, stretch forth Your hand to these Your servants who sing hymns of praise for Your glory. Grant them the wisdom and ability to sing our Orthodox prayers. Grant them good health, a happy life, and bless their good ef- forts. For You are a gracious God and to You we give glory, together with Your Father who is eternal and Your All Holy Good and Life-giv- ing Spirit, now and forevermore.
