6 THE SHEPHERD • DECEMBER 2024 • SAINT SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO DANCE & CHORAL December is upon us and the St. Spyridon Greek Dance and Choral school is winding up the year with many per- formances and fundraisers. Our dancers performed for the second year in a row at the Glenn at Scripps Ranch on 11/22 followed by our Frappe and Tost fundraiser on 11/24 during fellowship. One of our biggest fundraisers of the year is the December Nights parking lot fundraiser on 12/6 and 12/7. This year we added spanakopites to our usual hot chocolate offering. On the feast day of our church our Metropolitan Gerasimos will join us and for the first time our dance groups were invited to perform on 12/11! We are excited to return to the Philoptochos Angels Christmas Party on 12/16 to benefit local Kids ‘n’ Cancer children and their families. We were very excited to add yet another dance group to our roster this fall. On 11/15 we had the first of our 6-week Adult Beginner Greek Dance class. We are now proud to say we have five different dance classes, from the ages of 4 to 6 (Ta Spyridonakia), 7-10 (Helios), 11-17 (Pelagos), Young Adults (Arhondia) and Beginner Adults. In the New Year we are looking forward to having our FDF group perform for the parish and preview our competition suite during fellowship. Be on the lookout for a date to be announced sometime in December. It is not too late to join us, or, reach out if you would like us to perform at an event. Near- ly 200 people joined us for a festive evening. As usual, a de- licious spread was expertly prepared by Paschali Koutzmbis. The evening’s events included honoree Bill Diamond, named as AHEPAN of the Year, a choral performance from the Greek school, remarks from the Greek School Director, Nancy Pro- vataris, two dance performances from St. Spyridon’s Dance groups, Pelagos and Arhondia, and a live band with dancing into the evening. Master of Ceremonies and AHEPA Vice President Dino Paraskevopoulos was surprised with a cake in honor of his birthday. The entire evening was a wonderful event, which couldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts of AHEPA President Christoforos Savvides. Thank you to all who attended and a special thank you to those who con- tributed an additional donation during the live auction. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year! A.H.E.P.A.
