Our faith is under attack every day as we navi- gate modern life with snares placed by the enemy all around us. But we must not forget what the Lord said in Matthew 16:18: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” This statement made by our Lord when He was gathering the Apos- tles calls us to a position of offense against evil in this world. As Or- thodox Christians, we frequently view ourselves ‘in survival mode’ as passive prey and victims of sin and temptation. Instead, Christ calls us to live our lives as victorious cham- pions of faith that will tear down the gates of Hades. At our last Men’s Ministry meet- ing, we had the privilege of hearing from Father Simeon Corona from Saint Gregory of Nyssa Greek Or- thodox Church in El Cajon. Father Simeon has an active prison minis- try at the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility where he visits every Friday afternoon for several hours almost every week, meeting and preaching to Orthodox inmates as well as cate- chumens and others wishing to learn more about the faith. He discussed the Baptism, Chrismation, and Communion of one inmate into the Church this past July and the path We came. We stuffed. We Sealed. We conquered!!! One thousand envelopes are officially stuffed, sealed and on their way to our adoring Centennial Fans – with only a few complaints, a respectable amount of coffee, and enough donuts to keep the US Postal Service tummies full. Missed the madness? Don’t worry! Our next Mailing Committee extravagan- za is coming in late November. Come for the camaraderie and stand-up com- edy. No experience necessary – just a willingness to help. A special shout out to all the behind the scenes help: Nektarios designed the most beautiful initial mailing packet! Christine, Soula and J have helped tre- mendously on the admin side, helping us to collect addresses and store them in one place. Thank you for being a part of the Centennial Village, we cannot do it without you! With gratitude, Team 100 continues 11
