6 THE SHEPHERD • NOVEMBER 2026 • SAINT SPYRIDON GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO Dear students, families and friends of our Greek School, As we welcome November, we would like to thank you for your continued support and dedication to our Greek School community. We are proud of our students’ progress and grate- ful for the opportunity to celebrate Greek language, culture, and heri- tage together. Thanksgiving Break Reminder Please note that there will be no classes during the week of November 23rd in observance of theThanksgiv- ing holiday. We wish all our families a wonderful holiday filled with grat- itude, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones. Visit Our New Website We are excited to remind everyone about our new website sdgreek- school.org! The website is your cen- tral hub for important school infor- mation, announcements, and up- coming events. The school calendar is available online, making it easy to stay informed about holidays, school activities, and important dates throughout the year. We encourage all families to bookmark the site and check it regularly for updates. To remember this month: Novem- ber 17th - Honoring the Legacy of the Polytechnic Uprising. On No- vember 17th, Greece commemorates the anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising of 1973 (Πολυτεχνείο), an event that remains an important part of the country’s modern histo- ry. While students may learn about the historical events themselves, the day also serves as an opportunity to reflect on the enduring values of ed- ucation, freedom of thought, civic engagement, and the important role that young people can play in shap- ing society. As a school dedicated to language and learning, we recognize the significance of these values and the role of education in fostering informed, thoughtful, and engaged citizens. Thank you for being part of our Greek School family. We look forward to another wonderful month of learning and community before the Thanks- giving break. Warm regards, Dr. Eleni Sinopoulou San Diego Greek Language School Director GREEK LANGUAGE SCHOOL 3 NEWS FROM THE LOFT We hope these familiar carols bring a little extra joy to your hearts and help us all prepare for the true mean- ing of Christmas.
